The best thing I've heard this year (1)

Waaktaar and Zoë's 'World of Trouble' record puts me in mind of Dusty Springfield, David Bowie, Garbage, Ash, Velvet Underground, Katy Perry, Blondie, Pet Shop Boys, U2, Elastica, Pulp, The Cardigans and many, many others. And that's just the first 3 songs!

I don't know where I fell across the record - possibly a Spotify playlist - but I listened to it a bunch of times before I read anything about the band. Turns out it's not really a band at all but a collaboration between a young singer, Zoë Gnecco and not so young Pål Waaktaar-Savoy who, you may recall from his day job with a-ha.  

It's a great little record - not very long and full of hooks, melodies and proper choruses too. It's Spotify play count is pitifully low - how about we all try to do something about that?!
